Carl Sagan: A Universe Not Made For Us

I know that many of us desperately want the universe to not be so seemingly cold and uncaring. Talking about our world from a scientific point of view can, for some, make things seem pointless but as Mr. Sagan points out it doesn't need to be that way. Why can't we find awe and wonder in the vastness of the reality that we actually live in?

Personally I think that the true world (the world that science strives to describe) is much more fantastic and comforting than any religious myth that has ever been told to me.  Why?  Because a universe that isn't custom built for just us seems much more challenging and interesting.  In the religious version of the universe we were supposed to just shut up, stay stupid and live in our ignorant bliss.... kind of like a house cat. In addition because we are not the end all be all reason for the universe so much more is possible.  It breaks the bubble and expands the realm of the possible out infinitely.

So don't shy away from viewing the world with an empirical eye. Embrace it!
